Headlight or dipped beam not working
A sudden loss of dipped beam in one headlight is a common issue that every driver faces. Ignoring it is dangerous, as it makes you less visible to other road users at night or in twilight, greatly increasing the risk of an accident.
Likely causes — most common first
Blown bulb
The most common reason. Filaments or LEDs have a limited lifespan and deteriorate over time due to vibrations and heat.
Corrosion or poor contact in the socket
Due to moisture or condensation, contacts under the bonnet become corroded, covered with deposits, and stop conducting electricity.
Fuse problem
The fuse in the mounting block protects the wiring from overloads. If it blows due to a voltage surge, the headlight goes out.
Damage to wiring or ground
Wires can be chafed, cracked near the headlight, or lose a reliable connection to the car's body (ground).
Relay or control unit failure
Some modern cars use special relays or control units for lighting, which fail over time due to wear.
