Check Engine Light On
The yellow engine light on your dashboard means the car's computer has detected a problem. Don't ignore it, as it could be a minor electronic issue or a serious problem with the fuel or exhaust system.
Likely causes — most common first
Loose Fuel Cap
The most common and simple cause. The fuel vapour system loses its seal, and sensors detect an air leak.
Worn Out or Faulty Oxygen Sensor (Lambda Probe)
This sensor in the exhaust system controls oxygen levels in the exhaust gases. If it fails, the fuel-air mixture burns incorrectly, increasing fuel consumption.
Crankshaft or Camshaft Position Sensor Issues
These sensors are responsible for synchronising engine operation. If they fail, ignition and fuel supply are disrupted, making the engine harder to start or lose power.
Clogged Air Filter
A dirty filter restricts normal air access to the engine, distorting the mass airflow sensor readings and triggering the dashboard indicator.
Low-Quality Fuel
Fuel with impurities or the wrong octane rating causes detonation and incomplete combustion in the cylinders. The electronics immediately respond with an error message.
